Written by Grant Morrison; Art by Philip Tan

Six months ago Grant Morrison was the writer on what was easily DC Comic's most despised event in its history 'Final Crisis' which resulted inthe "Death" of Batman, now he is writing what is easily the best book DC are coming putting on the shelf.

But just as I was getting excited about this new Grant Morrison material, beautifully realised by Frank Quitely's brilliant artwork they go and switch artists on me. A strange move considering DC's latest hit is only 3 month old. This risky switch may losen its grip on fans before its had time to set. I couldn't help but feel a little underwhelmed by the new art teams work, especially compared to Frank Quitely and co with the clean brightly lit work, I have seen Philip Tan's work before in Green Lantern and quite enjoyed it but here it's dark and scratchy and hard to take it all in, perhaps this has more to do with the inking then pencil work though.

This issue continues to build and Richard and Damien's relationship, the backa nd forth banter and one up manship is quite nice but on the action front Morrison focus on Red Hood and Scarlet. Self branded as the next level crime fighters for the next level villains. Whilst we never see the Red Hood without his mask we assume as Batman does that it's Jason Todd, he has the exact MO including the two-fisted gunn totting and while I was alittle let down by the artwork I must say that the Redhood's costume looks more menacing with this new team. Morrsion even draws parralels between Batman & Robin and Red Hood & Scarlet by giving them a few quiet scenes between the madness to chat intercut with scenes of Richard and Damien.

I am sure I will deal with the new team as long as the writing keeps up but my vote would be to bring back Frank Quitely and Co back asap. This new book was sold as reparing Morrison & Quitely and 3 issues just wasnt enough.

4/5 Still great despite the new art team
