So Flash Rebirth #6 has come and gone, almost 12 months after the 6 issue mini series started.
So what have we learned? Geoff Johns doesn't know when to say "no, I got too much on my plate already I can't write another title". It should also be noted thta it was originally meant to be a 5 issue series but someone thought it would be a great idea to extend another issue, becuase Geoff Johns has so much spare time these days.
I mean let's look at his output currently, he got Green Lantern which has been consistantly brililant in all it's 50 issues so far and has managed to come out on time..mostly. Then there is Blackest Night, arguably the best event DC Comics has done in years, but then he also written atleast half of the tie-ins which it must be said was promist would not get out of control. Take Blackest Night Flash which was good enough but really added nothing to the event and it spoilt the reveal form issue 5 of Flash Rebirth that came out the week after. Not only that plus he has been made a member of the Executive Board at Dc. Probably the smartest move DC has made in a while and hopefully will dilute Didio's destructive path somewhat. But enough bitching how was the finale issue?
To be honest I have had trouble being too excited about this lately, my strongest feeling was just let's finish it and get on with the monthly. I think a mini-series this important should have been on schdule, as i felt its lost too much momentem. I have trouble remebering exactly what happened in the earlier issues because of all the delays. Especially when you are talkign about speedsters and the whole of idea of this was to re-establish Barry Allen and the status quo for all the Flash family but it doesnt feel like much has changed.Well of course Max Mecury is back and so it seem is Jessie Quick whichis ahell of a lot better then her Liberty Bell persona, assuming it carries on into the JSA book.
This issue mostly just finishes off the fight with the Revesre Flash from last issue and the race though time to save Ira and Barry finally accepting his place in the world he is back in. For some reason he doesn't restore the original timeline in which his mother wasn't killed hopefully this is explained in the monthly at some stage. Geoff John's also uses this issue as an opportunity to set up the cming events in the monthly, ie Professsor Zoom and the third Reverse Flash Hunter Zolomon team up which the Gorilla's in Ape City have visons of and the Rogues have a paln B if Barry ever returned and lastly he gets his old job back.
My final thoughts as I read this issue was thinking back to Marv Wolman's foreword in the collected version of 'Crisis on Infinate Earths' where he states that he left something in there that would justify DC bringing back Barry Allen anytime they wanted, I wonder what that was?
