So we have another Green Arrow #1 out, how many is that in the last 10 years? Something like 4 or 5 I think. Not sure why DC has so much trouble making the character work or why they keep feeling the need to relaunch it over and over. Surely just having a great writer would keep people buying the book.
Having said that I did quite enjoy this issue, it's picks up after the events of the rather rushed Rise and Fall storyline with Ollie, unpunished by exiled from Star City and living a Robin Hood type exisince in the new forest that popped up after the events of Brightest Day. It mostly serves to set up the new status quo as do most number 1's, thre's a new big bad, the new and mysterious owner of Queen Industries that wants to restore it to its former glory when Ollie's dad ran the shop ie. Defense contractor which in the first 3 pages is establised that Ollie really doesnt want that. She also has her own private security force that she is more then happy to lend to the mayor after the Commisoner is "mysteriously" killed. I am sure there is a connection there. We also get a visit from Green Lantern Hal Jordon that finds out the hard way that his ring won't work int he forest and a nice little epilogue about the things to come for the series.
So far the series is off to a good start, JT Krul seems to get the character and how to use him properly, using him as a crusader for the people and adding more then a few nods to the Robin Hood influence. The artwork doesnt dazzle me, I think the pencils and inks are good but the coloring seems to let it down.
Can't wait to see what happens next month with Hal and the Merry Men and finding out who they are and who the Black Arrow could be.
